My first cake : Butter Cake

Finally got an oven (OTG) and baked my first cake!

It was a simple Butter cake. I wanted to bake something I have tried before just to understand how the oven worked temperature time etc.

This is the recipe and this is how it turned out. The cake needed lot of improvement but it was still tasty.

Did I bake without an oven before? Yes, in a pressure cooker!  See here how it is done.

Re-springing Your Step : Kickstart!

Part of Blogging 101 : Make A Prompt Personal

A typical day goes very sluggishly these days. I get up late, make tea. Watch the scene outside the window. Look at strays – dogs, cats, at cars, the sky, trees and birds. With breakfast done, I read a book, check my blog, check others blogs. I am in auto-pilot mode. Not thinking much. So I decide to do something about it, I get out of the house with my daughter to do a few errands, go to the grocers, go to the bank etc.

She is angelic today, hasn’t troubled me at all. It’s a bit of a walk to the bank, and my daughter insists that she will walk on her own.  She is almost two and is rapidly getting an independent streak. Not that I mind her walking but there is quite some traffic on the road and it can get difficult for pedestrians especially for the small ones. My work finishes smoothly and we are on our way home when my daughter slips, I ask her if she is hurt and we continue walking. Another two or three steps and she slips again. This time I am not sure what is wrong. So I ask her if she is tired whether I should carry her. She says yes. The moment she is up, she lays her head on my shoulders and is asleep in no time. All that walking got her tired. I did not foresee this situation.

  • What day is your favourite day?
    saturdaynightfever

Got to be Saturday, day to get dressed, go out and have fun!  I have Saturday night fever, need I say more?

  • What time were you born?

A fine morning on a Sunday. The day when Lord Rama defeated Lord Ravana. The great win of Good over Evil, on Dusshera. It’s an auspicious day for the Hindus.

dusshera

Best part about being born on a popular festival is that people remember my birthday! As a kid I could celebrate two birthdays, one according to the Hindu calendar and one as per the Gregorian calendar and get loads of gifts! Also get to be the center of attention for two whole days!!! Did I mention two days?

  • Did anyone tell you how attractive you look today?

lips I have put on some red lipstick and singing, “I got the looks!” to myself in the mirror. That counts right?

  • When was the last time you cleaned your desk?

Two days ago. I was in some serious cleaning mode. Cleaned up half the house that day. Phew!

  • What is your favorite ice cream?

Coffee Walnut.

  • Have you ever met someone who looked just like someone else? What happened?

No, I have not but I have a doppelgänger whom I have not met. She is a famous regional TV actress.

  • Do you have a good ghost story to share? Share it now (please)!

Thankfully no! I am easily spooked. Read 3.am.

  • What do you really want to get this year?

A job. I am going to wait for some more time until my daughter starts pre-school then job hunting begins.

  • Is there any bread left in the house?

Yes, I made some sandwich for lunch, want some?

  • Do all your socks match and are they in your sock drawer like they belong?

The new ones do and they are in the right place. Until I pulled them out for a picture.

Re-blogged | Hilarious collection of signboard-fails in India

The Passenger

Signboard fails Signboard fails

I do not agree with the title of the post – coz no matter where you are from, you have seen something crazy like this and will be equally amused and disheveled after the scroll down. They have a grand collection of 40 such Indian signboard fails.

I’ve seen many of them on the web and on social media websites.
Infact I had started compiling thse rare-gems in one of my FB albums and even my good friend Uchil hosts a photo album on FB where people even contribute their finds.

But this is probably the funniest collection of some unseen masterpieces.
Be prepared to be surprised – and to laugh like crazy : click here.

"All the way down the creek, perched in the windows of the office blocks and department stores, the iguanas watched them go past, their hard frozen heads jerking stiffly… Without the reptiles, the lagoons and the creeks of office blocks half-submerged in the immense heat would have had a strange dream-like beauty, but the iguanas and basilisks brought the fantasy down to earth. As their seats in the one-time board-rooms indicated, the reptiles had taken over the city. Once again they were the dominant form of life." - JG Ballard “All the way down the creek, perched in the windows of the office blocks and department stores, the iguanas watched them go past, their hard frozen heads jerking stiffly… Without the reptiles, the lagoons and the creeks of office blocks half-submerged in the immense heat would have had a strange dream-like beauty, but the iguanas and basilisks brought the fantasy down to earth.
